INFO
Unsung Weavers produces a series of one-off garments hand-crafted in rare handwoven fabrics personally sourced from villages across Greece. Each unique piece is a living relic of a different cosmology, a form of cultural storytelling embedded within the fabric itself. The brand is an homage to the anonymous expert craftsmanship within these materials. It also honours the synergies that shaped them: the river that washed them, the bright sun that dried them, the Acacia flower that lent its colour, and the hands that collaborated. Unsung Weavers challenges the notion of individual “ownership”, both with regards to specific objects and to longstanding craft methods, considering them to function as a chart of social and natural relations. Founded in Athens in 2018, Unsung Weavers explores slow creative processes, combining research in longstanding textile traditions with a contemporary hands-on practice. Restoration, weaving, hand-stitching and hand-dyeing techniques – alongside working with small farmers to produce new iterations of traditional textiles from surplus wool – are all employed to set the brand's broader vision: reviving the long-forgotten rituals of textile and garment production from the days when the process was still a communal affair.
